Blue Archive The Animation, the anime adaptation of Nexon’s popular mobile game, has finally received an air date in North America. The anime will begin airing May 24, 2024 at 0:00 AM UTC (May 23 at 8:00 PM ET / 5:00 PM PT) on the Blue Archive Global YouTube channel. The North American stream will have English subtitles.

Blue Archive The Animation is produced by Yostar Pictures and studio CANDYBOX. The anime began airing in Japan and countries in Southeast Asia and the Pacific on April 7th. The anime was licensed in Southeast Asia and the Pacific by Medialink. Medialink streamed the episodes on the Ani-One Asia YouTube channel. Seven (7) episodes have already aired in the areas mentioned.

Senseis in North America will finally get to officially watch Blue Archive The Animation in English starting May 24.

During a special livestream, a collaboration between the Japanese version of Blue Archive and A Certain Scientific Railgun T was announced. The collaboration will introduce new furniture and limited characters for players to obtain.  There will be three characters available for players to obtain: Misaka Mikoto, Shokuhou Misaki, and Saten Ruiko.

Misaka Mikoto

Misaka is a three star striker unit that fights from the middle line. She’s an attacker that deals piercing damage. You can obtain her from a limited collaboration gacha banner.

Shokuhou Misaki

Misaki is a three star striker unit and also fights from the middle line. She’s a supporter that deals explosive damage. She will also be obtainable from a limited gacha banner.

Saten Ruiko

Saten is a one star special unit, so while she does not show up on screen most of the time like a striker, she can support the team in other ways. She’s an attacker that deals piercing damage like Misaka. Unlike Misaka and Misaki, Saten can be obtainable just by playing the event.

Blue Archive is a mobile game developed by Nexon and published in Japan by Yostar. It released in 2021 for Android and iOS devices. A Certain Scientific Railgun T is a 2020 anime adaptation of the A Certain Scientific Railgun manga written by Kazuma Kamachi. The series is a spin-off of Kazuma Kamachi’s A Certain Magical Index.

It seems the Korean rating board have decided that Blue Archive is a bit too spicy for its current age rating. Nexon was told to make changes to the game or raise the age rating. They have decided that given the backlash from the Aris situation that raising the age rate would give their players the best experience. The team has also decided to create a separate version of the game with the lower age rating that will contain “Adjusted” assets in case players would prefer to play that way.

Today I would like to address something outside of our game updates.

 

This September, we received a guideline from the Korean Game Rating and Administration Committee to either adjust the game’s art and resources or raise the game’s age rating.

The quickest and easiest response would have been to make those adjustments.

However, thinking of the Aris scene’s adjustment last time and as a PD, I was worried about negatively affecting our Senseis’ game experience with repeated changes if and when similar issues happen to arise in the future.

And so, we on the development team have decided to raise the game’s age rating so that Senseis can enjoy our original content, and then we’ll create another app version of the game containing the adjusted resources.

 

The version with the adjusted resources will undergo a thorough review so we don’t damage the characters’ visual personalities. We will always notify you of any changes made in the adjusted version.

 

To note, these separate game versions will not affect your accounts in any way.

Please feel free to select the version appropriate for your age and enjoy the game without concern.

 

When a game is in live operations, conditions outside of the actual game can sometimes cause unexpected issues and changes, but we will respond thoroughly to any such issues so that you may continue enjoying Blue Archive with as little disturbance to your gameplay experience as possible.

 

There are many other events we have been preparing outside of the game itself that I will announce the next time we speak.

The management team of SINoALICE has announced that the global version’s launch has been delayed indefinitely. The global version was previously scheduled to launch on July 18, 2019. Nexon is the publisher for the global version of the game. The team cites localization quality as a reason for the delay. You can check out the management team’s full statement below.

First and foremost, we would like to express our sincerest apologies to inform everyone who has been waiting a long time for the World Wide Launch, that the service schedule has been delayed.

SINoALICE is a work in progress that began last year, during which we aimed to open its services on July 18th, 2019.

As the opening date draws nearer, we have been running our final maintenances and check-ups for the global service. However, we have come to the conclusion that the localization quality of SINoALICE is nowhere near perfect at this stage of development.

In this regard, we have made many discussions with the Japanese developers, and at the cost of rescheduling the World Wide Launch, we have decided to optimize the localization of the game to provide the highest level of satisfaction for all users.

As the service schedule has been delayed, we are fully aware that many of you are disappointed and once again, we take this opportunity to apologize for our shortcomings.

As much hype there was built up for the global service of SINoALICE, our priority is to provide you with an experience that exceeds your expectations. We hope you understand that we have made a very difficult decision in delaying our global services.

The future World Wide Launch schedule is currently being negotiated.

As much as you are curious about the exact date of release, we will try our best to bring you the fully localized version of SINoALICE as soon as possible.

Furthermore, compensatory rewards for the service delay are currently being discussed internally.
We will notify you about the new World Wide Launch date and compensations through detailed announcements in the future.

Hyper Universe is seeing some minor but sweeping changes for its release on Steam. The female character portraits and the game’s breast physics are being toned down for the Western release. The game’s publisher Nexon had this to say about the changes in a post over on the Steam forums.

Hello everyone,

I implore everyone to read the original thread on the official forums regarding censorship.[forums.hyperuniverse.nexon.net]

If you pay attention, as some others have quoted, the changes were more so to make the female’s chest areas look more human and, well, a bit less ridiculous. Some of the females are a bit more modest in size and clothes compared to other versions of the game. We had complaints when we were at PAX South, in Alpha, and Closed Beta hence the decision to do what we did, without going overboard and giving every character a turtleneck sweater.

There are hard and thoughtful reasonings behind what we did – we do not want Hyper Universe to come off as a “quick cash scheme”, as we want to support it in the long term future. Some thoughts we took into consideration was potential broadcasting and tournament streams where some Hypers may make viewers feel uncomfortable or questionable to watch due to various reasons.

Overall, these changes do not detract from the gameplay nor the art in the game.

I would also say that speculating about future Hypers being censored is nearly worthless until they release or their art is shown for this region – especially regarding a certain succubus.

These changes effect nearly every female character in the game in some fashion.

Censored Gaming has released a video showing off some comparisons between the Steam release and the Korean release.

My take is that this is becoming more of a common practice with these types of games when they are being localized, and I honestly feel adding a simple toggle for original art and physics would’ve been a better solution. They should also probably teach their PR guy not shame big breasted women by saying they look ridiculous.

Limited Run Games have announced on Twitter that they are working with Boss Key Productions on LawBreakers for PC and PlayStation 4. The game’s Collector’s Edition is also available on both platforms. The project was previously known by the code name “Project Bluestreak”.  The game is set to launch on August 8th.

LawBreakers is an unusual team-based FPS, multiplayer game with gravity-defying combat. It is an online-only game that comes from legendary game designer, Cliff Bleszinski, and his team. You can find the game’s official website here. The PC version can be preordered now on the Limited Run Games website. The PlayStation 4 version is not available for preorder since Limited Run Games can’t control how quickly this version can be approved and manufactured on that platform. The approval process is of course in Sony’s control.

Devil’s Third Online for PC  has been announced by Nexon and Valhalla Game Studios. The PC version is said to offer a multiplayer-only experience tailored to PC. The game might not be receiving very good reviews in Japan but it is always possible that the game will find its niche with PC players looking for the tailor made mutliplayer experience.

The WiiU version is set to release on December 11 in North America.

Being a series that takes place predominantly inside an MMORPG, it only makes sense that Sword Art Online would eventually cross over into some existing games. For Japanese players of Mabinogi, their chance for an overlap between a real world MMO and SAO begins today. Mabinogi players will have access to Sword Art Online themed weapons, character avatars, and costumes as of August 15th. The event will run until September 12th.

Costumes and avatars are based not only on the game Sword Art Online, but also Alfheim Online, another fictional MMO featured in the series.

This isn’t the first time Mabinogi‘s parent company Nexon has created content for their games based on a popular anime series. Earlier this year they held a Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic event in Maple Story.

Although the Sword Art Online event isn’t available to players outside of Japan, the series has been getting a lot of attention in North America lately. It recently premiered on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block in the 2 AM time slot. Toonami is the only place you can see the dub, outside of purchasing the series for yourself; but the subbed version is available to stream on Crunchyroll.

A brand-new single-player game in the MapleStory franchise, MapleStory: The Girl of Fate (「메이플스토리 운명의소녀」), will arrive on the 3DS this April. It will be the first-ever South Korean exclusive for the 3DS.

The story involves a girl on a quest to exorcise a mysterious spirit that has possessed her body. The game is an action RPG, so naturally, the girl’s adventure will involve meeting NPCs, taking on side quests, and fighting monsters. The game has been designed with ease of play in mind, with only one button for attacking. That’s not to say the game will lack depth, however—the player will be able to customize the character’s skills, and there will be many different weapons to choose from.

MapleStory: The Girl of Fate will be released on the 3DS on April 25 for ₩44,000 KRW (approximately $39 USD).
